Bookmobile Support Campaign

Our History
For 50 years, the Holmes County District Public Library’s Bookmobile has delivered outstanding library services to our rural residents. However, costs of delivering this service increased an average of 5% annually while state funding has decreased by more than 20% in recent years. This greatly impacts our ability to meet the needs of our rural patrons today and no longer allows us to save and effectively plan for future needs. Preschoolers, students, families, senior citizens and the disabled need and depend on this unique service to connect to the wider world through books and programs. Even after years of careful fiscal restraint, book budgets have been cut in half; regular bookmobile stops have been cut by more than 25% and saving for future bookmobiles and expansion of this vital service has become impossible.A reputation for excellence
Our bookmobile program has a national reputation for excellence. With more than 70 years of combined experience, the individuals on our bookmobile staff are recognized as leading experts in library service to rural populations, the development of Christian materials collections, and providing services to Amish and Mennonite communities with respect for their culture. We circulate more books per capita than any other bookmobile in Ohio and quite possibly, North America. We have advised libraries across Ohio, the nation and the world on the startup and maintenance of bookmobile service and rural library service, the purchase of new bookmobiles, and implementation of cellular technology on the bookmobile. Here at home, we are valued by students, parents, teachers, senior citizens and the disabled who would not have access to library service without our bookmobile program.
Your dollars will make a difference
Reaching our campaign goal of a $1,000,000.00 over three years will make a significant and lasting difference to the bookmobile program and to those who count on the services it provides. Donations will put more books in the hands of children, will ensure that bookmobiles will be replaced when they are no longer roadworthy, and will allow staff to expand service to more of our residents who are homebound due to ill health or physical impairment. Donations will support formal education by allowing us to bring quality books to students in public and parochial schools and to foster lifelong learning for all those who use bookmobile services. Your donation will help ensure that quality bookmobile service in Holmes County will continue for the next decade and beyond. Thank you for your thoughtful and continued support! How you can help
